A bipartisan group of senators said Wednesday they are close to a framework agreement on a border security funding package that has been under negotiation for months.
The emerging deal reportedly pairs additional funding for processing capacity with new limits on the use of emergency parole authority, a combination that has been the central sticking point.
“We’re closer than we’ve been at any point this year,” one of the lead negotiators told reporters outside the chamber.
Leadership in both parties has signalled openness to bringing a deal to the floor before the current session recesses, though the timeline remains uncertain.
Several members on the party’s flanks have already signalled opposition, meaning the final vote count remains difficult to predict.
