The Leader of the Opposition used question period Tuesday to press the government over billions of dollars in approved infrastructure funding that remains unspent more than two years after being announced.
Figures from the independent parliamentary budget office show a persistent gap between announced funding and actual disbursement across transit, water and housing-related programs.
“Announcing money is not the same as building anything. Canadians are tired of ribbon-cuttings for projects that haven’t started,” the opposition leader said.
The responsible minister acknowledged delays but attributed them largely to municipal and provincial approval processes outside federal control, rather than any change in federal commitment.
A committee review of disbursement timelines has been requested and is expected to begin hearings next month.
